Art in the Library

Death and reconstruction. Fragmentation and repair. Hatred of perfection and the pursuit of an individual vision. These images are steps towards a final goal.
Second Statement (November 2004)
These photographs are a last sighing look back at my misspent youth. An homage to the hair bands, new romantics and Billy Idol. A wistful remembrance of the days when I wore miniskirts, rubber bracelets, and had a black/ blonde/red Mohawk...Working with latex designer Laura Lyn Petrielli of Vex clothing, I recruited the freshest faces of fetish to create "The Vex Project". After six months of pro bono photography, soaring egos, and mounting dementia- I ended up with a tear sheet in Issue #44 of 'SKIN TWO', a popular fetish magazine. I was also asked to photograph an ad campaign for Vex/Paul C Leather/Taissa Lada Designs for their joint retail outlet on North Avenue (now closed), a flyer/poster promotion for Coyote Ugly, and a reputation for being a freak. I also used the project as the 2004 fashion-themed issue of my zine "TMO- this month's obsession", which was sold in the MCA gift shop during the 'Skin Tight' show.
After the project was over? I went on to work with some brilliant student designers here at Columbia and had one of my photos used for the Fashion Columbia 2004 posters and invites. I did a couple of ad campaigns for local boutiques ( the Silver Room, G Boutique, Vive la Femme), shot my first editorial pages for a hair care magazine, and even got a job interning at Stuart-Rodgers Photography in Evanston. I am currently working on my fine art skills and looking for volunteers for the CANDY issue of my zine, due out in Mid-February. Almost everyone that I photographed has gone on to a brilliant, glamorous, fabulous career.
I am proud to work in the library.
Third Statement (March 2005)
In the 19th century, there was no digital. You got your hands wet and your clothes dirty whether you liked it or not. I took Tom Nowak's 19th Century processes class during the Fall 04 semester, and this is some of the result. Salt, starch, and albumen prints. My project was an exploration of extemporaneous light. Just record what's there using a Holga and some 120 film. The object of the game being to create by not creating. No conscious decisions, no orchestration, merely interpreting the presence of light and form in the world.
