The Library Liaison Program is designed to facilitate communication and foster collaboration between the Library and the Columbia College Chicago community. Each librarian serves as a liaison and is assigned to at least one teaching and/or non-teaching department. It is the responsibility of the liaison to serve as the primary contact between her or his assigned department(s) and the Library. The departments in turn, serve as a crucial link in helping librarians understand curricular needs and provide responsive and relevant Library support.
Liaison assignments are based on several factors: academic background, subject interest, current workload and willingness to become familiar with departments and/or subject areas with which the liaison may have not had previous experience. Occasionally, departments may be reassigned due to changes in staffing or workload, however, every attempt is made to ensure a smooth transition
The primary goals of the Library Liaison Program are to:
- Acquaint students, faculty and staff with Library collections and services;
- Provide Library assistance to faculty and staff, including, but not limited to, library instruction, individual research, and assistance in the development of course assignments requiring library research;
- Work with departments in meeting the educational mission of the College by identifying academic priorities, participating in the development of curriculum and supporting the accreditation process;
- Build and develop the Library collections in all formats, including the selection of books, journals, electronic resources, audiovisual and digital media to ensure relevancy;and
- Promote new and current Library services to the College Community
Teaching and non-teaching departments directly affect student life and academic excellence at Columbia College Chicago. Cooperation between your departments and the Library will have a positive impact on Library collections and services. We encourage you to work with your liaison to ensure that our collaborative efforts meet the ever-changing needs of our students.
